Other ITR Resources Heading link

Outside of the main ITR lab, other resources exist for users:

The Biological Resources Laboratory (BRL) at UIC is comprised of 104,000 sq. ft. on three levels. This includes 43 animal rooms for rodents and lagomorphs, each in a suite configuration with its own air handling system. Space is available for projects on an “as needed” basis. The ITR occupies a room with negative air pressure that is only used for infectious agents. It shares a 2nd room for uninfected mice which are used for tolerance and PK studies. Mice are housed in the BRL. Each floor of the BRL is managed by a team consisting of a Supervisor of Laboratory Animal Care, a board certified Laboratory Animal Veterinarian and a postdoctoral fellow. This management team oversees and works closely with a staff of certified laboratory animal care technicians. Working in collaboration with the investigators and their staff, the BRL staff provides support service for a wide variety of experimental protocols. The UIC Animal Care Program is accredited by the Association for the Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC) and has consistently received positive evaluations from representatives of the Food and Drug Administration, the World Health Organization, the National Institutes of Health and several commercial pharmaceutical and contract laboratories.

NMR

The Research Resources Center has 360 and 500 MHz instruments available for sample submission and is located across the street in the Medical Sciences Building. The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences also maintains two 300 MHz and one 400 MHz instruments on the 5th floor of the College of Pharmacy. ITR faculty have their academic appointments in this department and therefore are eligible to use these shared instruments. In addition the Center for Structural Biology, located one block from the College of Pharmacy has 600, 800 and 900 MHz NMR available for use.
